Re: Htpc upgrade
I use Solidworks Which is a mechanical design cad application. All acrylic is infrared transmitting, but some acrylic material is able to block uv and allow ir to pass through which tends to be a more expensive material and outside of my budget. I can’t get that material in small quantities, so that...

Re: Htpc upgrade
I’ve worked out a design for mounting the inteset ir board internally to the front face plate. This isn’t required for tomorrow’s upgrade as I’ll be using the Microsoft external receiver for the time being. Once it’s done I’ll be able to FINALLY get rid of that awful external receiver. The attached ...

Re: Htpc upgrade
I should be able to get it up and running tomorrow. First thing is to reconnect the new PSU then boot it and let Windows reconfigure itself to the new hardware. The board has a built in wireless connection, so I’ll have to uninstall the net gear adapter that I was using after windows reconfiguration...

Re: Htpc upgrade
Oh what a adventure this has been. I hit a snag. I need a new power supply, so I bought the one that Larry sells for 65 bucks and it sticks in the atx connector. I can't use the AC adapter that he sells because is doesn't fit my old case. He had to make it deeper to get it to fit. The alternative is...

Re: What would make a good UHD HTPC
You’re right Paul. I started to read through the thread again to refresh my memory. If I can get away with using Jriver for 4k and Blu-Ray playback using RedOctober HQ settings and MPC-Black for upscaled through madvr for dvd playback, I’ll go that route. I just don’t want to have to buy another pla...

No worries. I've taken care of deactivating your license, and sent the info to you in an email. Let me know if you have any trouble. Tagging along because I’m going to be in a similar situation. I thought that might be his problem. I’m going to be upgrading my hardware very soon on my htpc. It’s a ...

Re: What would make a good UHD HTPC
Hi Jamie, AFAIK you should be able to play 4k UHD using powerdvd 20 without a Intel igpu if you let the 🦊 remove the sgx requirement. You might want to wander over to the AVSForum and ask your question there as well. Someone somewhere has got to be using Powerdvd 20 with a discrete graphics card for...

Re: What would make a good UHD HTPC
Jamie take a look at my hardware thread. Links to what I bought are there. It all comes down to which features are important to you and how much you want to spend. I appear to be leaning more and more towards ASRock these days. A $100 motherboard can work just as well as a $350 one. Especially when ...

Re: Star wars 4k UHD special features
I like box sets because you can get movies usually pretty cheap, but I usually don’t like the way they are displayed unless they are individually put in there own cases. If I’m lucky, each movie will have its own upc attached to it. That way I can either keep it as a box set or break it up. I’m usua...
