303 - Selecting User Accounts in CMC

Chameleon CentralController (CCC) is used to export My Movies metadata directly to CMC's Movie DB, and manage User Accounts and Parental Restrictions, and tracks Watch History and WatchLists on a per-user basis.

303 - Selecting User Accounts in CMC

Post by Pauven » Wed Nov 25, 2020 5:18 pm

TL;DR:

If you only have 1 enabled User Account, CMC will automatically select it at startup.

If you have more than 1 enabled User Account, you will be shown the Who's Watching user selection screen at startup. You can also get to this same screen by selecting the new "Change User" option on the Exit panel.

If the selected User Account has a PIN code defined, you will be prompted to enter it to user that account.

The Who's Watching and PIN entry screens work with MCE Remotes, mouse, and touchscreen.

Non-Admin User Accounts will have greatly reduced options for CMC Settings. Most of the settings they have access to sync back to CCC and to other CMC PC's.

Who's Watching
When you launch CMC, it will first sync with CCC to make sure it has the latest User Account data. Then it will see if there are more than 1 User Account that is Enabled.

If there's only 1 User Account that is Enabled, then the Who's Watching screen will NOT be shown, and instead CMC will automatically select that User Account.

Otherwise, you will reach the "Who's Watching" screen, which will default to the last selected user:

As you can see in the screenshot above, Usernames can be quite creative. I've added some extra info to the names for this demo, so you can see that I have an Admin account, and a non-Admin account.

 TIP: You can use your remote, mouse, or touchscreen to make your selection.

If the selected account is PIN protected, then the next screen will prompt you to enter your PIN:

Switching User Accounts
There is a quicker way to switch User Accounts without closing and restarting CMC. If you have more than 1 enabled User Account, then you will see a new "Change User" option on CMC's Exit panel, which will return you to the Who's Watching login screen:

Non-Admin Settings
When a non-Admin user opens CMC's Settings, they will have a greatly reduced set of options to adjust. They will only have access to the "Startup & Logging Options", and "Display Settings":

Most (but not all) of these options sync back to CCC if the user changes them, which in turn syncs to all other CMC PC's.
