[In v3.0] Parental controls for background screen saver

Post by breazile » Tue Oct 29, 2019 3:18 pm

It would be good to have some parental controls around which movie backgrounds are shown with the screen saver feature. I have kids, and the system has popped up some racy images that I had to explain to my kids. It would be nice to have this option when you implement your parental controls.

Too funny. I promise that this is not a paid advertisement!!!

This exact feature is in CMC v3.0, which I just released today as Release Candidate 1 (for Prerelease testers, if you are one), and it will be released publicly in 2 days, on 10/31.

I like all the improvements to the background screen saver (and everything else) but in some circumstances I would like the screen saver to be turned off. Is there a way to disable it?

No, for liability reasons I do not provide a way to turn off the screensaver (can't afford to get sued for ruining someone's $100k 120" OLED TV).

But if you manually edit the cfg file, you can set the screen saver start delay to any value you want.

Just remember that if you do this, that you do it at your own risk

OK, I get what you are saying and I understand the reason its implemented. With my setup burn-in would not be a factor, thank you for the input.

Seems like burn-in is a possibility on almost any device. I have a nice LCD monitor in my office, and I thought they were immune to burn-in, but I can see the Windows Start button has burned in on my task bar, as have some of the other icons there that never move.

The Windows Start button is bad because it is all white on a black taskbar. What's worse is that on Win10, the task bar colors are highly restricted - I can only choose dark colors, and the start button will always be white. If I could invert them for a while, I could probably undo the burn. Microsoft sucks for not giving me any option to invert the colors. Even CMC will invert the colors automatically based upon the background image...

Thanks for understanding.
