Others have reported this issue as well. Not sure why it is happening. You can "fix" on your end by turning of the balloon in the settings. Since you know the app already, you don't really need the ballon tip anymore.
yes, I turned off the balloon. I just thought that I would report it.

Wow, that's quite the solution. Not sure how you figured all that out. I've never even heard of half that stuff before.

I'm glad you got a solution. Not sure what, if anything, I should do with that info. I guess it depends upon if you're just unlucky enough to have this issue, or if it's commonplace these days and more will have it.
I think that the issue is rare, but I thought that I would report a CCC fix in case someone else discovers the problem

CMC supports both MPC-BE and MPC-HC, perhaps you selected the wrong one, or the one you have installed is not being found. In Settings > Info you can show the detected players, that would be helpful here.
I usually install both MPC-BE and MPC-HC. This time I just installed MPC-BE. My guess is that if I install MPC-HC the error would not occur.

Here is a screenshot of my installed apps including MPC-BE.

I need to see Settings > Licensing & About CMC > Show Video Player Info

Should look something like this:

I will look it up. I'm not using the store app by the way. I downloaded the installer

Excellent! (but only because that's what I was expecting).

So the mystery is why CMC isn't seeing MPC-BE.

I did make a change in the 7.1 beta to detect MPC-HC installed via the K-Lite Codec packs. But that should be irrelevant for MPC-BE.

You mentioned it was installed normal. Can you provide a link to the version you installed?

And I also need to know where your "mpc-be.exe" lives.

I got it from sourceforge. https://sourceforge.net/projects/mpcbe. Microsoft has it but it is an older version. https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9pd88 ... n-US&gl=US. Videohelp is a safer site but I didn't see it at the time. Same version as sourceforge. https://www.videohelp.com/software/MPC-BE

on my system the exe is at C:\Program Files\MPC-BE x64.

edit:

Sorry, that was my windows 10 machine with the latest version.

windows 11 is different. I also downloaded from videohelp.

Your screenshot is a bit vague.

Can you confirm it is the following:

C:\Program Files\MPC-BE\mpc-be64.exe

The new path is C:\Program Files\MPC-BE\MPC-BE64.exe. It is not just windows 11. I uninstalled MPC-BE from my windows 10 machine and installed mpc-be 1.8.3 and the path changed to C:\Program Files\MPC-BE\. It appears that the path changed in one of the later versions of mpc-be. I always accept the default path for all program installs.. I don't know when which version they changed the path though. do you want me to install in the old path that CMC has been programmed to accept?

C:\Program Files\MPC-BE\mpc-be64.exe is supported in the 7.1 beta (the one I released a year ago, I believe).

Are you running 7.1 or 7.0?

EDIT: Oh, wait, my notes say it was in Build 2, which I don't think I released publicly, only Build 1.

But if you want to try Build 2, you can use the special MadExcept version (it's labeled Build 1, but that was just a shortcut to let me release it quicker).

CMC v7.1 Beta 1 Debug with MadExcept

Keep in mind, this is a special debug version, so it'll run slow and notify on lots of random errors - just hit Continue.
