I have used cmc with jriver as the player, but when I stop playback the jriver does not close the player. A small program has been developed called MCPlayClose by one from the jriver community and it starts jriver when activated and closes jriver when the player is stopped.
I don't know if you can use it in a payment program, but it solves all the problems of starting and stopping jriver.
the link to the program is

The generally accepted solution is to configure a remote button to perform the Windows hotkey ALT+F4, which closes the currently focused program. The nice thing about this Close button solution is that it works for all players and programs, not just JRiver.

When I'm watching a movie, I don't hit stop anymore, instead I just hit my configured Close button, which stops playback and immediately returns me to CMC. That way I can use the exact same workflow regardless of what external player I am using: PowerDVD, DVDFab Player, MPC, VLC, Win10 Movies & TV, and JRiver.

To make this super easy to configure, I have added a MCE Remote programming tool inside CMC (on the Settings screen), which will configure buttons for launching CMC and for performing the Close action.

All that said, I will still take a look at this utility, though I will be upfront and say that in general I don't like this approach of CMC calling a program that in turn calls another program, especially since it doesn't look like it has been updated in 4-5 years. Perhaps I can learn from this program how to have CMC work better with JRiver.
