Windows 10 April 2018 Update 1803
Windows 10 April 2018 Update 1803
One of our fellow MM Browser users, Michael, has upgraded several machines to the latest Window 10 update, 1803, also known as the April 2018 update.
He ran into an issue on his one PC that runs My Movies. Apparently the ancient SQL Server version that Binnerup ships with My Movies causes the update to fail about an hour into the process.
Michael also discovered a solution: simply stop the SQL Server service in your Windows Services before installing the update.
A big thanks to Michael for sharing this tip, and I wanted to pay it forward to other MM Browser users, since we all use My Movies too.

Re: Windows 10 April 2018 Update 1803
The actual services to stop are:
My Movies General Service
My Movies Itunes Control Service
I also stopped the tray icon (being paranoid) and then rebooted with those boot items turned off. You can use a program like Autoruns from Microsoft Sysinternals to do this easily. The link to the site is below.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm guessing that stopping the tray icon was the critical part of the solution, as I think that also stops the SQL Service.
In addition to the two services you listed above, make sure the My Movies SQL Server services are stopped:

Re: Windows 10 April 2018 Update 1803
good to know. Surprised you did not also have to shutdown the mymovies sql server service too??
Re: Windows 10 April 2018 Update 1803
Just FYI, I updated one PC a few days ago following the guidance here and terminating all MyMovies running services. Update without any issue.
I also updated another PC yesterday without any prior action on MyMovies (eg the tray application and all services running), and faced no issue on the Windows update either.

Hey Gilles, glad to hear that the upgrades went well for you. Seems that the SQL Server issues don't affect every PC the same way.
I posted to a My Movies forum thread in which Binnerup stated that a SQL Server bug is causing many of these issues. I pointed out that the installed version of SQL Server on my machine is 2014 Build 12.0.2269.0, which doesn't include any updates for over 4 years. I asked Binnerup how were updates managed, and if we could install updates ourselves.
Binnerup answered that SQL Server updates do not get applied when updating My Movies, but will be there on fresh installs. He also said that it is safe to apply the updates manually.
You can read that thread here: http://www.mymovies.dk/forum.aspx?g=pos ... 708#212708
I went ahead and stopped My Movies and all SQL Server processes, then installed SQL Server 2014 SP2, followed up by SQL Server 2014 Cumulative Update 11 for SP2. Then I started everything back up. I'm now successfully running SQL Server 2014 Build 12.0.5579.0, which is the latest and greatest for 2014.
Performance seems the same, but at least I haven't seen any issues, plus I'm now running a SQL Server version that was last updated this year rather than 4+ years ago.
I haven't upgraded to Windows 10 1803 yet, I've read about too many issues in general with 1803, so I'm waiting for a few fixes before I take the plunge.

Re: Windows 10 April 2018 Update 1803
There is a post on the mymovies forum asking about what happened to the windows support.
I installed the windows 10 1803 update on 4 PCS. The first 3 went without an issue, but the 4th gave up with a BSOD driver_PNP_watchdog error. I tried everything including pulling out all my PC express boards and GPU. I did shutdown the services but still kept getting the same BSOD. I eventually did a clean install and that worked fine. The one thing I did not do was uninstall mymovies. The problem PC was the only one with mymovies installed. I don't use mymovies on my 2 HTPC boxes. Just MMBrowser.
I suggest that everyone uninstall mymovies before installing the new update. I now have to rebuild my media server.
I successfully installed mymovies on windows 10 1803 and restored and synced my Database. I am so happy that I don't have to install it on 3 PCs. I'm also happy the I don't have to deal with WMC.

Paul, will you place a link on where you got the MS SQLserver service packs?
Re: Windows 10 April 2018 Update 1803
Hi Paul,
MMBrowser refuses to play nice on a clean install of MMBrowser. I get the following issue when I click on the exe.

Re: Windows 10 April 2018 Update 1803
I fixed the problem. I downloaded from the web site and moved the downloaded executable to my C:\ drive. Windows asked about a digital signature and I clicked allow and ok to that windows popup. Ran fine then
