[Fixed in v3.6] Interesting TV Series Issue

Hi Pauven

I have having a strange issue with one of my TV Series (Only Fools And Horses). Basically as I work through the series, it seems to occasionally play a special (i.e. an episode from Season Zero) instead of the episode I am expecting. It has happened twice now and each time it has been the first episode of a season.
Funnily, everything looks OK in the directory.

So Special S00E005 was played instead of S04E01, but the directory for S00E005 has the mmepisode.xml for S00E005 and then the WATCHED.txt for S04E01. Before I looked at the directory, I thought there was maybe something funky with the discs or maybe it was coded incorrectly in mymovies so I just flipped to Disc mode and watched season 4, but as I flipped back to season 5 (S05E01) it instead played S00E08. Again, the directory looks OK with mmepisode.xml for S00E008 and then the watched.txt for S05E01.

Was totally unsure what sort of investigation/logging you would want so thought it easier to ask you

Cheers

Tom

Hey Tom,

That issue isn't strange at all, fairly common actually. There's a few potential causes.

First, you didn't say if this was DVD or Blu-ray - that makes a difference. If it's a Blu-ray, then this sounds like the extremely common missing MPLS #'s issue. This is due to a bug in My Movies, that the MPLS #'s sometimes get lost in the online service, and if the online data is downloaded to your local DB (either when you originally added the title, or later due to an online update and you forgot to lock your title), then you will be missing the MPLS #'s in your collection too. When you go to play an episode, because there's no MPLS #, it just plays the first title, no matter what episode you picked. That could easily be the bonus content you're seeing play.

I have a whole tutorial dedicated to identifying and resolving this issue: TV303 - TV Episodes for Blu-rays

Now, if it's a DVD, then the problem could be the player you're using. Again, you didn't clarify what player you have configured, but if you're using something like PowerDVD, it does NOT support DVD title/chapter playback, so you cannot direct play episodes. You (and everyone) should be using MPC for DVD Episodes (Blu-ray too!), as it is the ONLY player that fully supports all types of direct content playback across DVD's and Blu-rays.

If neither one of those turn out to be the issue, then it could just be some bad episode mappings. You would need to post some screenshots of your disc episodes mappings from My Movies, and upload some sample mmTitle.xml files for me to review.

Let me know,
Paul

Hi

Its a DVD collection and I'm using MPC-BE for playback. I've watched a couple other series without issue.
Its not the episode mapping imho .....so here are the items you requested.

Oh, I guess I wasn't too clear previously that its actually playing the wrong disc (directory) which I think highlights that its not a simple player issue

Since you're having trouble playing S4 E1, I need to see the disc episode mapping for that, not for the Season 0 bonus content. Same with the XML data.
