Hi,
I noticed that HBO and netflix was not playing 5.1 surround sound in the Chrome browser. With Paul's help, I found this post in the superuser forum that describes how to set certain flags in Chrome for playing 5,1 surround sound and other options as well.

Thanks Jamie, that's a great tip.
Here's a screenshot of the setting. Note that it is disabled in my screenshot, and you'll want to enable it. Google cautions you that it "may exposed third party driver bugs, use with caution."

Just FYI: This is what work for me.
In the Chrome URL enter chrome://flags
Then enable the #try-supported-channel-layouts flag, and relaunch.
